Clinical background
Disease: Leptospira spp.: Leptospirosis Weil’s disease
Symptoms: Fever accompanied by chills, intense headache, severe myalgia (muscle ache), abdominal pain, conjunctival suffusion (red eye), and occasionally a skin rash. Jaundice, renal failure, meningitis, haemorrhage and myocarditis with arrhythmias.
Mechanism of Infection: Direct or indirect contact with the urine of an infected animal (via cuts, skin abrasions or mucous membranes)
